Tipstrr posts “best monthly horse racing tipster” rankings that offer a short-term snapshot of decent recent form but for me the results of a single month of betting tips has little value.

They introduced half-yearly rankings and quarterly updates to give us a more rounded look at the longer-term capabilities of their top-performing tipsters. This is good information to help you make a more informed decision on a particular tipster.

However, we can do better.

With Tipstrr’s search page and some spreadsheet magic its possible to identify tipsters who are highly consistent over three, six and 12 month periods.

And like the music charts we can track the rise and fall of tipsters on a Tipster Top 10 chart updated every month and see who is spending most Months on Chart (MoC).

Just click on the links for more information about each tipster, and for details of any trial deals that are currently on offer.

Who are the best horse racing tipsters?

TheBetInvestor always on the lookout to find the best tipsters and I’m always looking for consistency. My approach for all tipsters for my personal portfolio both football and racing tips is to seek moderate steady gains over time and not the nerve jangling rollercoaster rides of high profits and big losses.

I had always known about Tipstrr’s seach page and I found a way to use this basic data and stats to help find those consistent tipsters.

Finding the best horse racing tipsters

In choosing the best racing tipsters for my personal portfolio I am looking for tipsters who match my strategy. Their Return On Investment (ROI) does not have to be the best on offer at any particular point in time but it should be consistently high. These are horse racing tipsters whose predictions continue to deliver profit from betting tips over the short, medium and the longer term.

Tipstrr has a page on their site entitled “Discover the world’s best verified horse racing tips”. You can At the bottom of this there is a section “FInd a professional horse racing tipster”. Here you can enter some basic parameters to search their database to find tipsters offering racing tips that complement your style and preferences.

Not only “professional” racing tipsters – ones you have to pay a subscription for – but free tipsters as well.

Most importantly, for my research, it shows the best performing tipsters in ROI terms over different time periods – 3 months, 6 month, 12 months and “all-time”.

It previews the tipster’s ROI over the chosen time period ; the average odds, the average tips per week, their win rate and the profit for that time-period.

By extracting this information from this list of best horse racing tipsters and doing some spreadsheet analysis I can find all those tipsters who not only appear in the 3-month list but they also are in the 6-month list and also in the 12-month list.

Popularity of horse racing

Horse racing is an extremely popular sport for betting in the UK and across the world. The United Kingdom, United States of America, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Japan and France are the most popular destinations for horse racing.

There’s always going to be a horse racing meeting you can bet on at any time of day no matter where you are in the world.

Types of horse racing bet tips used by tipsters

There are much fewer betting markets for horse racing than there are for football but it can still be a daunting prospect for new punters.

The following following are common types of horse racing bets you’ll encounter with racing tipsters.

To Win

Simple and the most common bet for horse racing. The horse simply has to win the race. If the chosen horse wins the race you make a profit. If it does not win the race you lose your stake.

Each-way bet

An each-way bet is actually two bets.

Half the stake of an each-way bet goes on the horse To WIn. The other half goes on the horse to “place”.

“To place” generally means to finish 1st or 2nd and perhaps 3rd and 4th depending on the number of runners and the type of race.

If your selection wins the race then both parts of your bet win : you make a profit on the “To Win” bet and you also make a profit from the “to place” part of the bet but at reduced odds of either 1/4 or 1/5th of the “to win” odds – again depending on race type and number of runners.

To Place

“To place” bets Is the “to place” part of the each-way bet just described above. There is no “to win” part. If your horse “places” then you’ll make a profit at 1/4 or 1/5th the odds.

There are always specials that bookmakers do on particular races to entice punters to bet. It might be they pay up to 5 places rather than 4 or pay 4 places rather than 3. They might also offer odds of 1/3rd or 1/4 of the “to win” odds instead of the typcial 1/5th the odds.

Accumulator / Acca

Horse racing accumulator tips or accas as they are sometimes known are combination bets typically involving two or more horses in different races.

You can have “To Win” accas and each-way accas.

Accumulators work the same way for horse racing as football bets – in bookies you can have doubles, trebles, trixies, patents , yankees, canadian, heinz … the list goes on.

My own experience is that there are some racing tipsters who regularly tip doubles, maybe the odd treble now and again and even a trixie but not other types of bets that involve more selections.

Accumulators have a much smaller Win Rate than normal singles bets and are particulary useful if you want to appear as a typical punter rather than a professsional bettor.

A profitable racing tipster who tips accumulators – doubles, trebles etc., is a great addition to any portfolio – it marks you as a “punter” with the bookmaker.

Nap / Best bet

NAP is a phrase you will probably encounter with horse racing tips and racing tipsters and is worth a few words of explanation.

Nap is short for Napoleon and comes from a card game of the same name. The game, which originated in France, sees a player call ‘Napoleon’ when they believe that they have won the game.

In horse racing, the phrase Nap is used by tipsters to refer to the best tip of the day.

Types of bet not used by horse racing tipsters

There are some types of racing bets that are typically not used by tipsters. Here are a few.

Head-to-Head bets

On these bets we have a matchup between two horses, the objective is to bet on the one that finishes ahead of the other, place doesn’t matter. This market is very inconsistent, it is seldom if ever used by tipsters even though the sportsbook may make the odds look enticing.

Without the Favourite

“Without the favourite” consists on placing a bet on the race winner after taking one or more favourites out of the equation. These “removed” horses no longer matter to you and it doesn’t matter their finishing position in the race. For you to win your bet the horse you chose must win the race discounting the “removed” favourites.

Forecast/Tricast

On the Forecast market your objective is bet on the horses that will finish first and second on the race, you can even choose to bet on their finishing order (bigger prizes), or in any finishing order.

Tricast is somewhat similar to the former market, the only difference being that now you must consider three horses. So, the objective is the same, bet on the horses that will finish in the top three spots, you can also determine their finishing order or not.
